Standing Bear
This bronze statue by Carl Kauba
is handmade and cast in the traditional Lost
Wax Casting Process. This
insures a quality bronze
sculpture that may be passed
down from generation to
generation. Standing Bear and
his tribe were forced off of
there homeland in 1877 to move
onto a reservation where no
provisions were made for them.
Many of Standing Bear’s people
died during the winter. He went
to return to his homeland with
as many of his people that
wanted to go. He was arrested by
General Crook. Standing Bear
then sued the US District Court
to return to his homeland. He
won his case and was the first
Indian to receive US citizen
rights.
