This bronze statue by Clodion is

passed down from generation to
generation. The famous myth of
the abduction of Persephone
tells why we have Winter.
Persephone, who is the daughter
of Demeter and Zeus, was
abducted by Hades, the God of
the Underworld. Demeter, who is
the goddess of crops, missed her
daughter so much that she
refused to let things grow until
her daughter was returned.
Persephone had eaten a
pomegranate seed while in the
underworld making it that she
had to return there for 1/3 of
the year as Hades wife. During
that time, Demeter mourned for
her daughter and nothing grew,
hence our Winter season.
